Building regulations in England & Wales for ventilation have recently been updated. Below is a summery of the most significant changes in relation to trickle vents. The changes take place in two stages. 1. Replacement Windows - as from the 1st October 2006, all replacement windows should include trickle vents, unless there are other installed ventilation provisions. 2. New Dwellings - generally all new buildings will have to comply with the regulations no later than 1st April 2007. These regulations state "there should be adequate means of ventilation provided for people in a building", the use of trickle vents provide a safe and efficient way of providing fresh air and when used correctly do not contribute excessively to heat loss, they also provide a secure form of ventilation which can be left open at all times.
